Konchuu Hakase 2 is one of those weird little Game Boy Color gems you stumble on and think, "Wait, why didn’t this get localized?" It’s a bug-collecting RPG—yeah, you read that right—where you run around forests and caves catching beetles, butterflies, and other creepy-crawlies to battle with them. The pixel art for the bugs is surprisingly detailed, and the turn-based fights actually have some strategy to them. Who knew stag beetles could be so OP?
At first, it feels like a Pokémon clone, but the vibe is way more chill. No evil teams or world-ending threats—just you, your net, and an oddly satisfying grind to fill your bug encyclopedia. The music’s got that classic GBC charm too, all bouncy and nostalgic. If you’re into retro oddities or just miss the days when games didn’t take themselves too seriously, this one’s a fun time-waster.
Also, pro tip: Grasshoppers are mid. Go for the wasps early.
