About Knockout Kings (usa, Europe)
Knockout Kings came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999, published by Black Pearl Software. It was one of the few boxing titles on the handheld, arriving when developers were still figuring out how to translate complex sports into the system's limited palette and screen size.
You control a boxer from a side view, moving left and right to dodge punches and land your own. The main goal is to win matches by knocking out your opponent or earning a decision from the judges. Signature mechanics include a stamina bar that depletes with every swing, forcing you to pick your shots carefully, and a block button you must time perfectly to avoid damage. The game moves at a deliberate pace, with matches often feeling like a war of attrition where a single well placed hook can turn the tide. It feels like a genuine test of patience and timing.
