About Klustar (europe) (en,fr,de,es,it)
Klustar came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999, a time when the handheld was full of puzzle games trying to stand out. It was published by Infogrames, and it offered its text in five languages right on the cartridge, which was a nice touch for European players. This placed it among many other colorful, compact experiences designed for short bursts of play.
You control a small cursor, moving it around a grid filled with colored blocks. The main objective is to clear each single screen puzzle by grouping clusters of three or more matching blocks together; you select a block and then drag to connect all adjacent blocks of the same color, making them vanish. The core mechanics involve careful planning to create large chains for higher scores, while also managing the constant upward push of the entire block field, which rises slowly with each move you make. The pacing is deliberate, but the difficulty steadily increases as the grid gets more cramped and the consequences of a bad move become more immediate. It feels like a constant, quiet race against the board itself.
