About Klax
Klax on the Game Boy Color came out in 1999, published by Atari Corporation. It was part of that wave of puzzle games that fit perfectly on a handheld, something you could pick up for a few minutes between other things. The Game Boy Color library had a lot of these kinds of focused, portable experiences, and Klax was a solid entry in that space.
You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, catching colored tiles as they roll down a ramp. Your main goal is to catch these tiles and place them into rows on a grid, trying to form lines of three or more matching colors either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. The key mechanics involve planning your tile placements carefully and managing the constant flow from the ramp; if you let too many tiles fall off the end, the game ends. The pace starts deceptively simple but quickly builds, demanding faster decisions as the tile speed increases. It feels satisfying to set up a big combo and watch multiple lines clear at once.
