About Kinniku Banzuke2 - Mezase! Muscle Champion (japan)
Kinniku Banzuke GB2 came out in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, developed by KCEO and published by King Records. It was part of that wave of late 90s portable games based on Japanese television shows, specifically the obstacle course competition known as Muscle Ranking. You would see a lot of these quirky physical challenge titles on the system, often as exclusives that never left Japan.
You control a contestant trying to complete a series of obstacle courses against the clock or an opponent. The main objective is to reach the goal in each stage without falling or running out of time. Signature mechanics include navigating precarious moving platforms, timing your jumps across gaps while managing a stamina meter, and using a grappling hook to swing over hazards. The game moves quickly, and the physics are unforgiving; a slight misjudgment sends you tumbling to the bottom, forcing a restart. It feels like a constant battle against both the course layout and your own momentum.
