Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the GBA is a weird little sequel—in a good way. It picks up right after the first game, with Sora and friends wandering into this creepy castle where memories get fuzzy. The combat’s totally different from the PS2 version, though—you’re slapping down cards to attack, dodge, or even steal enemy moves. Took me a bit to get used to it, but once you figure out how to chain combos, it’s oddly satisfying.
Story’s actually important here—it sets up KH2, and the writing’s way darker than you’d expect from Disney characters. The pixel art’s gorgeous for a GBA game, too. Just don’t expect the same button-mashing action as the console titles. You’ll be shuffling decks more than swinging a keyblade sometimes.
