Kien came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Trecision and published by Playmates. It was part of that later wave of GBA titles, the kind that tried to squeeze a complex, almost PC-like experience onto the handheld. You control a young apprentice, a Devan, who is tasked with recovering five stolen elemental tablets. The story sets you on a journey across a world that feels large and sometimes unwieldy on the small screen.

You guide your character through side-scrolling environments, moving screen by screen. Combat is a central focus; you use a sword for close encounters and can switch to a bow for hitting distant enemies or solving simple puzzles. The game is structured around exploring dungeons, defeating bosses, and gradually collecting the tablets. It is known for its deliberate, sometimes slow pacing and a difficulty that can feel punishing, with precise platforming and aggressive enemies. Playing Kien feels like a constant test of your patience and skill.
