About Jeff Gordan Xs Racing
Jeff Gordon XS Racing came out in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, published by ASC Games. It was part of that wave of late 90s handheld titles where licensed sports games tried to carve out a space, often with mixed results. You got a portable NASCAR experience, which felt ambitious for the little cartridge.
You control Jeff Gordon's stock car in a series of oval track races. The main objective is to win each race by finishing first, navigating traffic and managing your position on the track. Signature mechanics include drafting behind other cars to gain a speed boost and a turbo button for a short burst of acceleration, which you must use sparingly as it overheats the engine. The racing is fast, and the AI opponents are aggressive, making it a challenge to hold your line through the corners. It feels like a constant, tense battle for space on a very small screen.
