ISS 2 on the Game Boy Color is one of those rare sports games that actually holds up. The controls are simple—just A and B for passing and shooting—but there’s a surprising amount of finesse in how you angle shots or time through balls. Graphics are basic, sure, but the animations have this satisfying snap to them, especially when you nail a long-range goal.
What I love is how quick matches feel—no bloated menus or endless loading, just pick a team (Brazil’s always overpowered, obviously) and go. The AI isn’t genius, but it’ll punish you if you just sprint mindlessly. And yeah, the commentary text is hilariously repetitive, but that’s part of the charm now. Still the best portable soccer game from that era, hands down.
