About Ice Age Ii
I remember picking up Ice Age II for the Game Boy Color back in 2002. It was developed by Vicarious Visions, a studio that put out a lot of solid licensed games for that handheld. This was during the final years of the GBC, a time when developers were really squeezing every bit of performance out of the hardware before the Advance took over completely.
In the game, you control Scrat, the saber-toothed squirrel from the films, on a frantic quest to retrieve his precious acorn. The main objective is to navigate through a series of side-scrolling levels, from icy caverns to prehistoric forests, to get it back. The core gameplay involves running, jumping across platforms, and climbing vines. You also use a unique digging mechanic to burrow through soft dirt and snow, which often reveals hidden paths or items. Collecting a certain number of acorns is required to finish each stage. The pacing is quick, and some of the platforming can be quite tricky, demanding precise jumps. It feels like a constant, cheerful scramble against the clock and the environment.
