Hyper Olympic - Winter 2000 on the Game Boy Color is one of those weird little sports compilations that somehow ended up being way more fun than it had any right to be. You've got your usual winter events—ski jumping, bobsled, that kind of thing—but everything's simplified into quick, arcade-style bursts. The controls are janky in that classic GBC way, where you're mashing buttons to build speed before timing your jumps just right. It shouldn't work, but somehow it does.

Graphics are about what you'd expect from a late-era GBC game: blocky but colorful, with just enough detail to tell what's happening. The downhill skiing event still stresses me out—one wrong move and you're eating snow. Definitely more fun with friends, if you can find someone else willing to play a 20-year-old Winter Olympics game.

If you're into retro sports games, this one's a surprisingly solid time-waster.
