Hype: The Time Quest is one of those underrated Game Boy Color gems that feels like a tiny Zelda-meets-time-travel adventure. You play as Hype, a rookie knight who gets tossed through different eras—medieval castles one minute, weird futuristic cities the next—and the pixel art somehow makes each time period feel distinct. The combat’s simple but satisfying, with just enough swordplay and magic to keep it interesting without overcomplicating things.
What really stuck with me were the puzzles. Some of them actually make you think about how items from different timelines interact, like using a futuristic gadget to solve a medieval problem. And yeah, the story’s cheesy in that classic GBC way, but it’s got charm—especially when you meet characters who pop up in different centuries. Just don’t expect a flawless masterpiece; the controls can feel a little stiff by today’s standards. Still, if you’re into old-school action-adventure games, this one’s a solid time capsule.
