Holy Magic Century came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, published by Natsume. It was part of that wave of late-era GBC action RPGs that tried to pack a big adventure into a small cartridge. You play as a young hero tasked with restoring light to a world being consumed by a spreading darkness. The game is structured around exploring a large world map screen by screen, with each new area opening up as you progress.

You control your character from an overhead perspective, navigating forests, towns, and multi-level dungeons. Your main goal is to find the elemental orbs hidden in these dungeons to lift the curse of darkness. Combat is simple; you swing your sword at enemies that appear on the map, and you can also find a bow for ranged attacks. The dungeons are the real focus, filled with puzzles, keys, and bosses guarding the orbs. The pacing is deliberate, as you often backtrack through previously visited areas with new abilities. It feels like a slow, methodical crawl through a fading world, where every new screen uncovered is a small victory.
