This GBC version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is way more than just a movie tie-in—it’s a full-on RPG where you actually feel like a first-year at Hogwarts. You start by getting sorted (I always go Gryffindor, but Slytherin has some fun dialogue), then it’s off to classes where you learn spells by tracing shapes with the D-pad. Mess up, and Snape glares at you in glorious 8-bit.
The pixel art somehow nails the castle’s vibe—moving staircases, secret passages, even Peeves floating around. And yeah, you duel Malfoy, sneak around Filch, and brew potions (which is weirdly tense for a kids’ game). The music’s got that chiptune magic too—Hedwig’s Theme on a Game Boy shouldn’t work this well.
It’s janky in places (good luck with that stealth section), but if you grew up with this or just love retro RPGs, it’s a surprisingly deep little wizarding world. Just don’t expect the broom controls to make sense.
