Hana Yori Dango - Another Love Story is one of those late-era Game Boy Color gems that flew under the radar outside Japan. It's based on the classic shoujo manga, but don't let that fool you—this is actually a weirdly addictive dating sim/RPG hybrid where you navigate high school drama while leveling up your stats between classes.

The pixel art nails that 90s anime aesthetic, and the turn-based battles (yes, battles—against rival students, of course) have this janky charm where you're literally throwing roses at people. I spent way too long trying to max out my charm stat just to impress Tsukasa, who remains as much of a disaster as in the original series.

It's in Japanese, but if you've played enough old-school dating sims, the menus aren't too hard to figure out. Just expect a lot of trial and error when picking dialogue options—Tsukushi will absolutely roast you if you say the wrong thing.
