Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite! is one of those weirdly charming Game Boy Color games that shouldn’t work as well as it does. You play as Hamtaro, a tiny hamster with big adventures, running around town helping other hamsters (the "Ham-Hams") with their little problems—like finding lost items or delivering messages. It’s basically a cute, low-stakes RPG where you collect sunflower seeds instead of gold, and your biggest enemy is a grumpy hamster named Spat.
The pixel art is adorable, and the dialogue has that early 2000s kid-friendly vibe, but there’s something oddly satisfying about how simple it is. No combat, no stress—just hamsters being hamsters. Fun fact: This was the last GBC game released in the US and Europe, which makes it a weird little piece of history. If you ever wanted to live out a day in the life of a cartoon hamster, here’s your chance.
