About Hajime No Ippo (english Translation)
Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! for Game Boy Advance came out in Japan in 2002, developed by Treasure and published by Nintendo. It was part of that wave of late GBA titles that really pushed what the hardware could do visually, especially with 2D sprite animation. You don't see many boxing games on the system, so this one always stood out.
You control Ippo Makunouchi, a shy high school student who decides to become a professional boxer. The main goal is to work your way up the ranks, winning matches to become the Japanese featherweight champion. The gameplay splits between life simulation segments where you manage your training schedule and build relationships, and the actual boxing matches. The fights use a unique control scheme where you tap buttons in specific sequences to execute different punches and defensive moves. It's a difficult game; mistiming a block or wasting your stamina leaves you wide open for a knockout. Landing a perfect combo and watching your opponent's health bar drop provides a real sense of hard-earned accomplishment.
