About Grinch (japan)
I picked up Grinch for the Game Boy Color around the time it came out, a game based on the live-action movie. It was developed by Artificial Mind and Movement and published by Konami, fitting right in with the many other licensed games on the platform back then. You don't see many people talk about it now, but it was there on the shelf alongside the more famous titles.
You control the Grinch himself, moving through a series of side-scrolling levels with the goal of ruining Christmas for the Whos in Whoville. Your main actions involve sneaking past guards and household pets, using a slingshot to hit switches or stun enemies from a distance. The levels are built screen by screen, requiring you to find keys, avoid searchlights, and navigate platforms. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, as you figure out the patrol patterns and the correct order to solve environmental puzzles. It feels like a careful, mischievous crawl through a sleeping town.
