About Great Basketball
Great Basketball was released for the Sega Master System, a console from the late 80s. It was published by Sega, a company that put out a lot of sports titles for their hardware. This game was part of that push, a straightforward basketball simulation for players at home.
You control a team of five players, switching between them to move up and down the court. The main goal is to outscore the opposing team by shooting the ball through the hoop. Key mechanics include dribbling to advance the ball, passing to open teammates, and timing your jumps for rebounds and blocks. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the computer opponent can be quite aggressive, making steals and fast breaks common. It feels responsive and direct, a solid pick-up-and-play sports game from that era.
