Great Basketball Game

Okay, so Great Basketball on the Sega Master System is one of those old-school sports games that somehow nails the arcade feel despite the hardware limits. You pick your team (I always go for the red jerseys—no idea why, just feels right), and then it’s straight into this fast, slightly janky but totally addictive basketball sim.
The controls are simple—pass, shoot, steal—but the real fun is in the way the players move. They’ve got this weird, bouncy momentum that makes dribbling down the court feel like you’re barely in control, in the best way possible. And the three-pointers? Weirdly satisfying when you nail one from the corner, even if the shot animation is basically just the player teleporting into the air.
It’s not deep by modern standards, but there’s something about the speed and chaos that makes it way more fun than it has any right to be. If you’ve got a buddy, the two-player mode turns into a hilarious mess of steals and last-second buzzer beaters. Just don’t expect NBA Jam—this is pure, clunky, late-’80s charm.
