Grand Theft Auto Advance is that weird little GBA spin-off you either forgot existed or played way too much as a kid. It’s Liberty City again, but this time in crunchy 2D—top-down like the old PS1 games, but with way more missions and that same chaotic energy.
You start off running errands for the mob, stealing cars (obviously), and dodging cops who somehow spot you instantly if you so much as tap a pedestrian. The controls take a second to get used to—driving feels stiff at first, but once you’re weaving through traffic while cops ram you from behind, it clicks.
Weirdly, the story’s actually decent? Like, it’s not just mindless mayhem. There’s betrayal, revenge, and a surprising amount of dialogue for a GTA game crammed onto a tiny cartridge. Don’t expect voice acting, though—just a lot of text boxes and pixelated explosions.
It’s janky, it’s rough around the edges, but there’s something charming about causing chaos on a screen this small.
