Golden Axe on the Master System is a stripped-down but still fun version of the arcade classic. You pick between a barbarian, an amazon, or a dwarf—I always went with the dwarf because he hits like a truck, even if he’s slow. The levels are shorter than the Genesis version, and some enemies got cut, but you still get to ride those weird lizard monsters and chuck magic potions at skeletons. The music’s surprisingly decent for 8-bit, too.

It’s not as flashy as the arcade original, but for a Master System port, it holds up okay if you’re into old-school beat ‘em ups. Just don’t expect the same chaos as the Genesis release.
