About Gex : Enter The Gecko
Gex: Enter the Gecko came out for the Game Boy Color in 1998, developed by Crystal Dynamics. It was part of that wave of platformers trying to capture the feel of the bigger console games on a handheld. You got a colorful, side scrolling adventure in your pocket, which was pretty standard for the time but always a welcome sight.
You control Gex, a wisecracking gecko, through a series of themed levels. Your main goal is to find remote controls scattered in each stage. You run, jump, and use your tail as a whip to attack enemies. The game is structured screen by screen; you explore each area thoroughly, often backtracking a little to find all the collectibles. The pacing is methodical, and some jumps require precise timing, making it a decent challenge. It feels like a solid, compact platformer that keeps you focused on navigating its environments.
