Gex: Enter The Gecko on Game Boy Color is one of those weird, charming platformers that just oozes late '90s energy. You play as a wisecracking gecko who runs, jumps, and whips enemies with his tail through these surreal, TV-themed worlds—think cheesy sci-fi sets, cartoonish jungles, and other bizarre backdrops. The controls take a minute to get used to (that tongue attack has some weird range), but once it clicks, you’ll be bouncing off walls and stomping bad guys like a pro.
It’s not the hardest game out there, but some of those later levels get surprisingly tricky with hidden collectibles and sneaky enemy placements. And yeah, the humor is peak '90s—lots of dated pop culture jokes that either land or make you groan. Still, there’s something oddly satisfying about the way Gex controls, especially when you chain moves together. If you’re into retro platformers with personality, this one’s a solid pick.
