Gex: Enter the Gecko on Game Boy Color is one of those weird, late-'90s platformers that somehow works. You play as a wisecracking gecko hopping through TV-themed worlds—everything from horror movies to sci-fi—grabbing remotes to unlock new areas. The controls are a little stiff compared to the console versions, but the levels have this bizarre charm with dumb jokes and references everywhere.
First level drops you in a cheesy noir detective setting, and within minutes you're bouncing off film reels and dodging rolling film canisters. The color palette's surprisingly decent for GBC, even if Gex himself looks more like a green sausage than a lizard. It's janky, but in that way where you keep playing just to see what dumb TV trope they'll parody next.
Definitely a nostalgia trip if you remember the PS1 era, but still oddly playable if you like collect-a-thons with attitude.
