Gekitou! Car Battler Go!! is one of those GBA games that somehow makes driving a tiny pixel car feel ridiculously intense. You start off picking a ride—nothing fancy at first, just a basic set of wheels—but then you slap on weapons like missile launchers and saw blades because, well, why wouldn’t you?
The races are chaotic in the best way. One second you’re drifting around a corner, the next you’re dodging a flamethrower from the guy in third place. The controls are simple enough that you’ll be pulling off stupid stunts within minutes, but there’s a weirdly deep strategy to balancing speed and firepower. I kept losing early races because I loaded up on guns and forgot my car still needed to, y’know, move.
It’s got that classic GBA charm—bright colors, chunky sprites, and a soundtrack that sounds like it’s being played through a tin can (in a good way). If you ever wished Mario Kart had more explosions, this is your game. Just don’t blame me when you spend an hour tweaking your car’s loadout instead of actually racing.
