Gakuen Alice - DokiDoki Fushigi Taiken is one of those quirky little GBA RPGs that never made it outside Japan, which is a shame because it's got this weird charm to it. You play as a girl named Mikan who gets whisked away to Alice Academy, a school for kids with special abilities (think X-Men but with more school uniforms and less explosions).
The combat's turn-based but with a twist—you collect these "Alice" abilities that range from useful (healing) to completely ridiculous (turning enemies into sweets). I remember spending way too long trying to figure out which skills actually worked well together. The pixel art's cute, and there's this whole friendship mechanic where bonding with classmates unlocks new dialogue options.
It's definitely rough around the edges—some translations are wonky, and the difficulty spikes randomly—but if you're into obscure mid-2000s JRPGs with personality, it's a fun time. Just don't expect a polished modern experience.
