Gakkou no Kaidan - Hyakuyobako no Fuuin is one of those weird little GBA horror gems that flew under the radar. You play as a kid trapped in a haunted school (classic Japanese horror setup), solving puzzles and avoiding ghosts while trying to break the curse of this mysterious "Hyakuyobako" box. The pixel art nails that eerie school-at-night vibe, and some of the jump scares actually got me even on the tiny GBA screen.

What’s cool is how it mixes adventure game logic with survival horror—you’ve got limited items, so wasting flashlight batteries or healing items feels punishing. The ghost encounters are trial-and-error at first, but figuring out each spirit’s weakness (salt? prayers? running like hell?) becomes weirdly satisfying. Just don’t expect jump-out-of-your-seat terror—it’s more about slow dread and that "oh crap, did that locker just move?" tension.

Definitely a niche pick, but if you’re into retro Japanese horror or weird GBA deep cuts, it’s got a creepy charm.
