Gaiamaster Duel - Card Attackers is one of those weird little Game Boy Color gems that never left Japan. It’s a card battler with a fantasy twist—think Magic: The Gathering but with chunky pixel art and way simpler rules. You start off picking a starter deck (I went with the fire cards because, well, fire), and then it’s straight into duels against AI opponents.

The battles are quick, almost puzzle-like—you’re placing cards on a grid, trying to outmaneuver the other player’s attacks. At first, it feels basic, but then you realize there’s some sneaky strategy in how you position your monsters. The art’s got that classic late-90s GBC charm, all bright colors and exaggerated designs. Not gonna lie, the menus are a pain if you don’t read Japanese, but you can muddle through with trial and error.

If you’re into obscure retro card games, this one’s a neat curiosity. Just don’t expect Yu-Gi-Oh levels of depth.
