Shiren GB2 is one of those classic roguelikes that’ll either hook you immediately or make you rage-quit after getting wrecked by a random trap. You start in a desert village, grab some basic gear, and dive into randomly generated dungeons where every step counts—hunger drains fast, enemies hit hard, and one wrong move can ruin a good run. The Game Boy Color version keeps the charm of the original with its simple but brutal turn-based combat and pixel art that somehow makes a blob monster look terrifying.
What I love about this one is how unpredictable it feels—you might find an overpowered sword early, then immediately lose it to a thief or a cursed scroll. And yeah, permadeath is a thing, so don’t get too attached to your inventory. The desert theme adds a nice twist too, with sandstorms messing with visibility and hidden oases saving your hide when you’re starving. If you’re into old-school dungeon crawlers that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a gem.
