About Front Line - The Next Mission (japan)
Front Line: The Next Mission was a Japan only release for the Game Boy Color, published by Taito in 1999. It arrived late in the handheld's life, a time when developers were pushing the hardware with more complex action games. This title was a direct sequel to the arcade original, attempting to translate its cooperative run and gun gameplay into a portable format.
You control a lone soldier navigating a series of side scrolling and overhead view stages. Your main objective is to advance through enemy territory, destroying tanks, helicopters, and foot soldiers to reach the end of each mission. Signature mechanics include switching between a standard rifle for ground troops and a rocket launcher for armored vehicles; you also commandeer enemy tanks for a temporary boost in firepower. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from all directions, and the difficulty is unforgiving, demanding quick reflexes and careful ammunition management. It feels like a constant, tense struggle for survival against overwhelming odds.
