Freestyle Scooter on the GBA is one of those early 2000s gems that somehow makes pulling off basic tricks feel like a big deal. The pixelated skaters and chunky ramps give off serious Tony Hawk vibes, but with scooters—which, honestly, is way more fun than it sounds.

You start off with a basic scooter and a handful of moves, but after a few bailed landings (and maybe some controller-throwing frustration), you’ll start nailing combos. The controls are simple—hold a button to charge, release to jump—but timing is everything. Mess up, and your rider eats pavement in the most dramatic way possible.

What surprised me was how much personality the little skateparks have. One minute you’re grinding rails in a neon-lit city, the next you’re launching off ramps in some backyard DIY setup. It’s not the deepest game, but it’s weirdly satisfying to just zone out and string together flips and spins. If you ever spent afternoons trying (and failing) to land a tailwhip in real life, this’ll hit different.
