About Freekstyle (u)(mode7)
Freekstyle came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by EA Seattle and published by Electronic Arts. It was part of that wave of extreme sports games that tried to capture the feeling of bigger console titles on a handheld, with the Mode7 tag hinting at its visual approach.
You control a motocross rider, racing on twisting, gravity defying tracks. The main goal is straightforward: finish first. Your main tools are the preload for bigger jumps and the trick system, which you activate with shoulder buttons and directional inputs to earn boost. The tracks are filled with massive jumps and banked curves, demanding you manage your rider's balance in the air to avoid crashing. The races are fast and the AI is aggressive, making a clean run feel earned. It captures the chaotic, high speed thrill of motocross without the real world consequences.
