Fortress came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, developed by Saffire and published by Crave Entertainment. It was part of that wave of early GBA titles that explored action and adventure, fitting right in with the handheld's growing library. You play as a young warrior named Kael, tasked with reclaiming a mystical fortress from a dark sorcerer who has twisted its halls with monsters and traps.

You guide Kael through the fortress room by room, each screen a new puzzle or combat encounter. Your main goal is to find the three scattered Keystones to unlock the sorcerer's inner sanctum. You use a sword for close fights and a crossbow for hitting distant switches or enemies; switching between them is constant. The pacing is deliberate, as you often backtrack with new items to open previously blocked paths. Some rooms demand quick reflexes to avoid spike pits or arrow traps, while others require you to move blocks onto pressure plates. Navigating the fortress feels like slowly untangling a knot, methodical and satisfying with each new section you clear.
