I picked up Fort Boyard for the Game Boy Color back in 1999, a release from Microids that was only available in Europe. It was a time when licensed games based on TV shows were common, and this one translated the French adventure game show into a portable format. You don't see many games like this anymore, built for a specific regional audience on that little color screen.

You control a team of contestants, switching between them to solve puzzles and find keys within the fort's many rooms. The main goal is to collect enough gold to access the final treasure chamber before your time runs out. The gameplay is screen by screen exploration, navigating the fortress layout and tackling logic puzzles and physical challenges that mimic the show. It's a methodical, sometimes tense experience; the constant time pressure means you can't linger too long on any single puzzle. The difficulty comes from managing your team's limited time and skills effectively, making it feel like a genuine race against the clock.
