About Fire Emblem Monster Quest
I picked up Fire Emblem Monster Quest on the Game Boy Advance back when it was new. It was one of those games that came out early for the system, and I remember it was published by Nintendo. It fit right in with the kind of tactical, thoughtful games the GBA was starting to become known for, sitting alongside other strategy titles without much fanfare.
You control a small party of heroes, moving them across grid based maps to engage monsters in turn based combat. Your main goal is to clear each dungeon level by defeating all the enemies or reaching a specific tile. The combat uses a weapon triangle system where swords beat axes, axes beat lances, and lances beat swords, so you are constantly thinking about positioning. You also recruit new characters who join your army, and permadeath means any unit that falls in battle is gone for good, which makes every decision feel heavy. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush in without a plan. It feels like a careful, methodical puzzle where every move matters.
