Final Fight One on GBA is basically the arcade classic squeezed into your pocket—and it still holds up. You pick between Haggar (the mayor who punches first, asks questions never), Cody (the guy who somehow fights better in handcuffs), or Guy (ninja kicks for days), then plow through waves of thugs in Metro City’s grimy back alleys. The first time I played, I went with Haggar because, well, suplexing goons into dumpsters never gets old.
It’s got that classic arcade feel—simple controls, chunky sprites, and enemies who love to gang up on you when you’re trying to grab a health item. The GBA version even throws in a few extras, like Guy’s alternate costume that makes him look like he raided a ’90s ninja movie wardrobe. Just don’t expect deep combos—this is pure, unfiltered button-mashing chaos, the way beat ’em ups used to be. If you’ve got a buddy with a link cable, the co-op’s a blast, though good luck finding someone who still has one lying around.
It’s not perfect (the screen crunch can make cheap hits feel cheaper), but for a quick fix of nostalgia, it’s hard to beat. Just watch out for those guys with knives—they’re sneaky.
