About Famicom Mini - Vol 18 - Makaimura (j)(hyperion)
Famicom Mini Vol. 18: Makaimura is a Game Boy Advance release that brings the original Ghosts 'n Goblins to a handheld format. This version was part of Nintendo's Famicom Mini series in Japan, which re-released classic Famicom games on the GBA. It was originally developed by Capcom, a company well known for its arcade hits. The game appeared during a period when the Game Boy Advance was a dominant platform for portable gaming, offering a library that mixed new titles with faithful ports of older console games.
You control the knight Arthur, clad in his suit of armor, through a series of side-scrolling stages filled with zombies, demons, and other monsters. Your main objective is to rescue the princess Prin-Prin from the demon lord Astaroth. You move screen by screen, throwing lances, daggers, and other weapons you pick up to defeat enemies. A signature mechanic is that Arthur's armor breaks after a single hit, leaving him in his underwear and vulnerable; a second hit will kill him. The pacing is relentless, with enemies spawning frequently and platforming that demands precise jumps. The difficulty is notoriously high, requiring you to memorize enemy patterns and stage layouts to make progress. Playing it feels like a constant, tense battle for survival where every small mistake is punished.
