About Fila Decathlon
FILA Decathlon was a Game Boy Advance title released in 2000, developed by the Italian studio Raylight Studios and published by Fila itself. It arrived early in the handheld's life, a time when sports games were experimenting with portable formats. This one focused purely on track and field events, offering a straightforward athletic challenge without the frills of a larger career mode or team management.
You control an athlete competing across ten different Olympic style events, including the 100 meter dash, long jump, and javelin throw. The main objective is to win gold medals by achieving the highest scores across all events. Signature mechanics involve rapid button mashing for running events to build speed, and precise timing for field events; for example, you tap the A button repeatedly to sprint, then hit a specific button at the right moment to launch a javelin or initiate a pole vault. The pacing is quick, moving from one event to the next, and the difficulty comes from managing your athlete's stamina bar, which depletes during intense efforts and can lead to disqualification if exhausted. It feels like a test of both your thumb endurance and your ability to keep a steady rhythm under pressure.
