FIFA 2004 for the Game Boy Advance came out in 2003 from EA Sports. It was part of that wave of sports titles trying to fit a console experience into your pocket, and it landed right when the GBA was hitting its stride with more complex games. You could tell they were pushing the hardware a bit further with this one.
You control a full soccer team, switching between players to pass, tackle, and shoot. The main goal is to win matches across various leagues and tournaments. A couple of its signature mechanics were the off-the-ball control, which let you direct a runner's path before receiving a pass, and the first-touch system that gave you more precise ball control upon receiving it. The pacing is generally quick, though the difficulty can spike against tougher computer teams, demanding smarter passes rather than just sprinting down the wing. It feels responsive and surprisingly deep for a handheld game, making each match a satisfying tactical challenge.
