F.A. Premier League Stars 2001 is one of those early 2000s footy games that tried to cram the whole Premier League experience onto the Game Boy Color—and honestly, it’s kind of impressive they got it working at all. You’ve got all the big clubs and players from back then (think Beckham, Henry, and the rest), though the sprites are so tiny you’ll be squinting to tell who’s who at first.
Controls are basic—pass, shoot, sprint—but it’s got that classic arcade feel where sliding tackles are way too satisfying and the refs never seem to notice. The commentary’s just text popping up, but it’s weirdly charming when it shouts “GOAL!” in all caps after you somehow bumble one in from 30 yards.
It’s not FIFA, but for a pocket-sized footy fix in 2001, it did the job. Just don’t expect any fancy graphics or deep tactics.
