Exciting Bass was a Game Boy Advance title released in 2000, though I don't recall the developer's name. It came out during a time when the handheld was just starting to build its library, offering a different kind of adventure from the usual platformers and RPGs. You play as a lone angler exploring a variety of lakes and rivers, with the simple goal of catching as many fish as possible.

You control your character from a top-down perspective, moving your small boat around the water. The main objective is to catch specific fish to complete your logbook. The gameplay revolves around casting your line, waiting for a bite, and then engaging in a timing-based struggle to reel the fish in. Different lures and locations affect what you can catch, and you often need to upgrade your rod to handle larger species. The pace is generally slow and methodical, though a sudden tug on the line can be surprisingly tense. It feels satisfying to finally land a difficult fish after a careful fight.
