I picked up Eragon for the Game Boy Advance back in 2006, a time when licensed movie games were common on the handheld. Vivendi Universal Games published it, and it was one of many action titles trying to capture the feel of its source material on the small screen. The game arrived without much fanfare, just another adventure you could carry in your pocket.

You control Eragon, a young Dragon Rider, through a series of top-down areas. Your main goal is to fight through waves of enemies and navigate dungeons to advance the story. The combat is straightforward; you swing your sword at Urgals and other creatures, and you can also use a bow for ranged attacks. A key mechanic involves using magic, which lets you push back groups of foes or interact with specific objects in the environment. The game moves at a steady pace, but some sections can feel repetitive as you clear room after room of similar enemies. It's not particularly difficult, though occasional spikes in enemy numbers can test your patience. Playing it feels like a simple, sometimes grindy, handheld hack and slash.
