I picked up The Emperor's New Groove on the Game Boy Color back in 2000, a Disney Interactive title that came out right when handheld gaming was full of these colorful movie tie-ins. It was a time when you expected a certain kind of simple, straightforward adventure from a cartridge, and this one fit right into that library.

You control Kuzco, who has been turned into a llama, and your main goal is to find a way to turn him back into a human. The game plays out screen by screen, with you running, jumping across platforms, and headbutting enemies. You explore different areas, from villages to jungle paths, and you also spend a lot of time collecting items; finding a certain number of golden sun discs is a key part of progressing. The pacing is generally steady, though some jumps require precise timing, and the difficulty feels typical for the era, with a few tricky spots that might take a couple of tries. Playing it feels like a light, cartoony trek where you are constantly nudging the story forward with each new screen you clear.
