Okay, so Emperor’s New Groove on Game Boy Color is basically like playing through the movie, but with way more llama-related platforming. You start off as Kuzco—pre-llama transformation—running around the palace being a brat, and then boom, Yzma’s potion hits, and suddenly you’re hopping over cacti in the jungle. The sprites actually look pretty solid for a GBC game, and the dialogue nails Kuzco’s sarcasm.
Gameplay’s a mix of light puzzles (mostly pushing stuff or finding keys) and some surprisingly tricky jumps. The first level’s easy, but once you hit the jungle, those vines and pits get mean. Also, Pacha shows up to help occasionally, which is nice because Kuzco-as-a-llama has the durability of wet paper. The music’s catchy too—just don’t expect full voice clips or anything.
If you liked the movie’s humor, this is a fun little time capsule. Just don’t throw your Game Boy when the boulder level gets annoying.
