About Elmo In Grouchland
I remember picking up Elmo In Grouchland for the Game Boy Color back in 1999. It was published by NewKidCo, one of those many licensed titles that filled the shelves during the handheld's peak. The game arrived when every cartoon character seemed to get a pixelated adventure, and this one promised a trip to Oscar the Grouch's trash-can home turf.
You control Elmo, walking screen by screen through Grouchland's various themed areas. Your main goal is to recover Elmo's lost blanket, which was stolen by the greedy Huxley. You spend your time jumping over obstacles, pushing trash cans to create platforms, and collecting items like rubber duckies and bananas. The levels are linear but require some light backtracking once you find new abilities, such as a temporary invincibility power-up. The pacing is slow and deliberate, aimed at a younger audience, so the challenge is more about patience than reflexes. It feels like a simple, methodical scavenger hunt from start to finish.
