ESPN Final Round Golf 2002 is one of those early GBA golf games that somehow nails the vibe of a lazy Sunday on the green—just without the sunburn. You pick your golfer, adjust the wind and club settings (which feels weirdly satisfying for a handheld game), and then it’s all about timing that power meter just right. Mess up, and you’ll be digging out of sand traps more often than you’d like.
The graphics are simple but clean, and the controls are straightforward—no complicated button combos, just pure golf. It’s not the deepest sim out there, but for quick rounds between bus stops or before bed, it does the job. Also, the commentary’s sparse, which is honestly a relief after some of the over-the-top sports games of the era.
If you’ve got a soft spot for early 2000s handheld sports games, this one’s a solid putt.
