Driver 2 Advance came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, published by Atari. It was part of that wave of console games getting squeezed onto the handheld, and you could tell it was a pretty ambitious port for the hardware. The graphics are rough, with blocky cars and sparse cityscapes, and I ran into some strange glitches, like being able to walk right through a vehicle. The core story and mission structure are still there, trying to capture the feel of the original PlayStation game.

You play as undercover cop Tanner, driving and shooting your way through missions in cities like Chicago and Rio. Your main goal is to complete a series of jobs, which usually involve tailing other cars, evading the police, or taking out rival drivers. The driving controls are simple but slippery, making chases feel unpredictable. On foot sections are included, though they are clunky and basic. The game moves at a decent pace, but the difficulty can spike suddenly during certain police pursuits. Even with its flaws, there's a certain charm in navigating those open city streets on such a small screen.
