Driver on Game Boy Color is one of those old-school arcade racers where you’re basically a getaway driver tearing through city streets. The controls take a second to get used to—tapping turns feels a little stiff at first, but once you get the hang of it, weaving through traffic actually feels pretty satisfying.

You’ve got a mix of missions, from outrunning cops to timed deliveries, and the top-down view gives it that classic GBC vibe. The cities are small but surprisingly detailed for the hardware, with shortcuts and alleys to duck into when things get hairy. Music’s got that crunchy late-90s synth sound, which somehow fits perfectly when you’re barely scraping past a roadblock.

It’s not the deepest racer, but for a handheld port of the original Driver, it holds up better than you’d expect. Just don’t go in expecting Forza.
