Dragon’s Lair on Game Boy Color is basically the arcade classic crammed into your pocket—and somehow, it still feels epic. You play as Dirk the Daring, this hilariously over-the-top knight who flails his way through castles, dodging traps and getting roasted by Singe the dragon (a lot). The animation’s simplified from the arcade version, but you still get those dramatic reaction shots when Dirk faceplants into a spike pit.
Gameplay’s all about timing—press the right button at the exact moment or watch Dirk die in increasingly ridiculous ways. First time I played, I swear I lost five lives before even reaching the first skeleton. The dungeons are packed with instant-death surprises, so expect to memorize patterns or suffer. But when you nail a sequence and Dirk actually pulls off a heroic leap? Weirdly satisfying.
It’s janky, punishing, and totally nostalgic. Perfect for masochists who miss quarter-munching arcade vibes. Just don’t throw your Game Boy.
