Dragon Drive: World D Break came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, a time when the handheld was full of anime tie-ins and monster battling games. It was published by Bandai, a company known for that sort of thing. You play as a kid named Reiji Ozora, who gets pulled into a virtual world to raise and fight with dragons. The setup is familiar if you played other creature collection RPGs from that period, but it had its own take on the formula.

You spend your time exploring different areas, moving from screen to screen in a top-down view. Your main goal is to raise your dragon's stats and evolve it by winning battles in these dungeons. Combat is turn based; you select attacks from a menu and watch the animations play out. A key mechanic is the D-Drive system, which lets you unleash a powerful special move once a gauge fills up. The pacing can feel a bit slow, especially when grinding for evolution items, but the battles are straightforward. It feels like a solid, if unspectacular, monster raising game from that era.
