About Dragon Dance
Dragon Dance came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by KCE Studios and published by Konami. It was part of that late era for the handheld, a time when developers were still finding new ideas for its limited color palette and screen. You guide a young boy named Leo, who finds a dragon egg that hatches into a companion. The world is presented from an overhead perspective, and you move screen by screen through forests, caves, and villages.
You control Leo directly, while your dragon follows and can be given simple commands to attack enemies or interact with the environment. The main goal is to explore the land and defeat a gathering evil. A key mechanic is the bond with your dragon; it gains experience in battle and learns new elemental breaths, like fire or ice, which are often required to solve environmental puzzles or defeat specific monsters. You also collect dragon orbs to increase its power and progress through themed dungeons that house major bosses. The pacing is deliberate, with some backtracking as new dragon abilities open up previously inaccessible paths. The difficulty is moderate, though some boss encounters demand quick maneuvering and smart use of your dragon's current breath attack. Playing it feels like a quiet, cooperative journey where your success hinges on that growing partnership.
